| Sjogren Industries Inc., USA, a leading manufacturer of wire testing quality control equipment and accessories, has recently developed the �Torsion Twist Tester� machine that is ideal for testing high-carbon steel wire, as well as copper or aluminium rods. This machine tests brittleness, inclusions, hidden seams, and other flaws. It is available in three different models ranging in wire diameter of 0.2mm up to 19mm. Features include a fully programmable counter with automatic forward and/or reverse capability with up to 12 possible twisting programmes with memory of the complete cycle. Each machine has an easy-to-read digital display, positive holding chucks with replaceable jaws, and an interlocked guard. The constant tension is provided by use of weights. It also features an automatic broken wire switch that will stop all machine functions while retaining all pertinent data. The regenerative DC drive is variable and maximum speeds vary by model.
In addition, Sjogren offers its �Wrap Tester�, suitable for testing plated or unplated steel wire. The Wrap Tester is a benchtop model that can coil wire around a mandrel to allow visual inspection for cracks and fractures. The sizes range from 1.2 to 9.5mm wire �. The machine comes complete with a constant speed chuck, along with a wire guide assembly mounted to a sliding carriage with interlocked guards and an electrical control panel. This unit comes equipped with a wire bender for preforming the wire sample.
