Braiding machines featuring an unrivalled carrier
Established in 1981, Cobra Machinery Ltd, UK, Cobra has supplied braiding machines throughout the world, built to the specific requirements of each customer. The machines are designed and manufactured to braid "soft metals" which are ductile and pliable. Typical metals that can be braided either horizontally or vertically are: stainless steel, copper, nickel, gold and silver. The design of the machines is such that a wide range of machinery can be made, utilising as few different components as possible. This enables the company to supply machinery for a diverse range of applications from narrow fabrics through to technical aerospace products.

In addition, the company provides special carriers that feature an enclosed adjustable tension spring, enabling the tension to easily be adjusted over a wider range. As a result the carrier delivers constant tension. This avoids the replacement of the tension spring everytime the spring loses tension. These carriers have been designed to operate up to a tension level of 650 grammes. Cobras machines are capable of braiding a range of fibres from natural fibres such as cotton to modern aramids such as Kevlar. With modern fabrics the Cobra carrier is able to deliver a consistent braid so avoiding fibre waste. For natural fibres, in particular cotton, the carrier is capable of holding large packages to ensure continuous running of the machine. Packages available include: - Paper or cardboard tube; - Cobra bobbins ranging from a capacity of 80 to 950cm3; - American style bobbins; - European style bobbins.

End-use products which are braided on Cobra machines include: heating tapes, thermocouple cables, monofilament sleeving, cable harnesses, loud-speaker cables and medical products, as well as automotive hoses and conduit.
