Cutting-edge three-dimensional braiding machine
Foster-Miller Inc., USA, has recently added a 3D-braiding machine of its own design to enable formation of complex components with a wide range of fibre architectures. This new capability primarily supports the companys growing role providing new advanced engine component designs and fabrication methods for military and commercial customers. The machine incorporates Foster-Millers patented, high take-up, direct feed fibre carriers to permit efficient handling of the most brittle ceramic fibres, including Hi-Nicalon and Sylramic. Foster-Miller further brings the design experience for making the specialised, high-rate braiding machines that will be necessary for production once optimal fibre architectures are proven.

Foster-Miller Inc. is an independent, privately held engineering and technology development firm who has a staff of more than 300 composed of mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical, nuclear, aerospace and materials engineers as well as metallurgists, physicists, mathematicians, chemists and biologists. Having the materials, design, analysis and equipment experts necessary, the company continually develops and applies the latest technologies to address a broad range of customer needs.
