Cold welding for copper wire production
Cold pressure welding provides a fast, easy and cost-effective method of joining copper wire and strip to provide a bond as strong as the parent material, without involving heat, flux or filler. The technique can be used to weld most non-ferrous materials, including dissimilar ones, such as copper and aluminium, giving an excellent quality weld since the process produces a worked structure as opposed to the cast structure obtained in fusion welding. With over 20 years experience, Pressure Welding Machines (PWM) Ltd, UK, offer machines to suit a wide variety of applications, ranging from hand-held, manually operated welders for joining fine copper wire from 0.08mm up to electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic powered heavy-duty rod welders with capacities of up to 25.00mm .

The companys newest model is the powerful air/hydraulic HP200 welder that is equipped with a solid steel welding head. The machine is designed to weld copper wire and strip from 2.00 up to 6.50mm . Trolley-mounted for convenience and ease-of-use, the HP200 is powered by an air/hydraulic intensifier, easily activated by a foot pedal. In addition, the company produces a range of hand-held, manually operated welders that are suitable for welding fine copper wires. Comfortable to hold and easy-to-use, these machines will accommodate welding requirements from 0.08 to 2.00mm . PWMs portfolio of bench mounted models includes the BM10 Superfine, BM10 and BM30. Manually operated, all these machines have welding capacities of between 0.08 and 1.80mm. Other popular models include the pneumatic P101 and the M101, a manual bench machine which can also be supplied trolley-mounted. At the top of the range, the EP500 and the P1500 rod welders are heavy-duty freestanding machines capable of cold welding copper up to 25mm .
