As an efficient amalgamation of the former companies Technica-Guss, Krupp Technica, Krupp Industrietechnik, Knoevenagel and Meer, the SMS Meer Copper Plants Product unit is the specialist for machinery, process plants and integrated technology for the manufacture of semi-finished products of copper, copper alloys, precious metals and other materials. The product range includes integrated casting and rolling plants for wire rod and narrow strip (Contirod�/ Conas�); casting and shearing lines for anodes (Contilanod�); rolling and drawing plants (directube�), horizontal and vertical continuous casters (Hom-Tec�, Computocast�, Verticast�); process control and automation technologies.
The Contirod� technology is today used by more than 30 plants world-wide with a total installed capacity of about 5 million tonnes of copper rod. Together with its partners Hazelett Strip Casting Corp, USA, specialising in twin-belt caster and Umicore Copper, Belgium, specialising in process know-how, SMS Meer GmbH supplies plants with a capacity ranging from 5 to 60 tonnes per hour. Even when the typical product is the 8mm � copper rod, the Contirod�� line allows the production of further round material up to 30mm � as well as flat sections up to a width of 150mm.
The most modern Contirod� lines are featured by:
- Automatically controlled gas burners of the shaft melting furnace (Asarco type);
- Closed-loop control of liquid metal flow;
- Frequency-controlled single drive rolling mill;
- Counter bearings and motorised roll gap adjustment for rolling of flat sections.
