| Based on many years of experience in the field of laser scanning for diameter measurement, inductive concentricity and wall thickness measurement with EX-TEST and METREX systems, the new ODEX 8 from the Swiss company Zumbach Electronic AG, features a novel concept for continuous, entirely non-contact measurement and monitoring of concentricity, outer diameter and ovality during the extrusion. The acquisition of the outer diameter in two axes is achieved with high-frequency laser scanning technology while the measurement of the inner conductor position is performed inductively, utilising several measuring coils. Both measurements are performed simultaneously and on the same measurement plane, i.e. without longitudinal mismatch and resulting measurement errors when the wire is twisting.
Designed to measure LAN, telephone and coax cables within a diameter range of 0.4 to 8.0mm (solid or stranded conductors with diameters ranging from 0.1 to 5.0mm), ODEX 8 features a resolution of 0.0001mm with an accuracy that is better than 0.0001mm for diameter and ovality, and better than 0.0008mm for concentricity. Very compact, ODEX 8 easily fits between the extruder and the cooling trough and can be removed from running line if necessary. Its modular design allows to use it as a fully static measuring head that is sufficient when the conductor runs smoothly or is guided by rollers. It can also be used as an optional servo system for applications with considerable variations of product position
