| Following the conclusion of development work on the production of weaving yarns with higher strength, Lenzing Plastics GmbH & Co KG, Austria, provides customers with PTFE yarns, branded HT types, featuring higher strength than in the past. According to newly compiled specifications, the HT104 yarn has a titre of 440dtex, a strength of approximately 35cN/tex and an elongation of Fmax of approximately 4%. The new HT type of PTFE yarns features the excellent properties of the companys previous yarns such as the 204/300S type. In particular, this refers to the reduction in strength and in particular to the development of elongation as the temperature rises.
In technical applications such as in textile constructions for awnings, ropes and tapes, the low elongation at room temperature is an advantage since woven textiles become more dimensionally stable as a result of this. The HT04 yarn offers a considerable improvement in technical applications due to its high-strength. This translates into a wider range of uses for these products. Another advantage could however be the reduction of material needed wherever it is not vital to increase the breaking force of finished products.
