Tensile force measuring system
Tensometric Metechnik GmbH, Germany, specialises in the design and supply of high-precise electronic systems to measure and control tensile forces. These systems, featuring tensile force measurements from less than 1cN up to 10kN, are designed for applications during wire, cable, rope, tape and fibre manufacturing and processing. Sensors are robust, reliable and high-overload protected, which is of particular interest when less space for fixing sensors in machines is available. For this particular purpose, the company recommends its series of radial force sensors, which are equipped with built-in amplifier, and supply an analogue output signal of 0 to 10V. Put an existing guide-pulley (or another roller) on the sensor axle and the system is ready for measurement.

The company's latest development is the measuring device, model IMP-Compare, which adjusts the brakes and controls the wire-course in stranding machines, mostly for thin wires. The tensile force measuring system can operate without any alterations for existing machines as there are no sensors in the rotating part of the machine. Only one single sensor is necessary for up to 16 wires, and no slip-rings or other transmitters are required. Because many faults in the product could be a result of inadequately controlled tension and because exact tension control, gained from such systems, avoids possible production loss, Tensometric focuses on the measure and control of tensile forces on running material as it occurs during all winding and unwinding processes.
