Metalube has introduced improved versions to its Alumol range of aluminium and aluminium alloy rod and wire drawing lubricants.
These will be marketed using the suffix ‘XL’ (designating ‘extra life’) after the original product name.
The new XL grades are designed to extend the drain intervals/tank life of the lubricants by more than 20%. The life of aluminium drawing lubricants is usually determined by the rate of viscosity increase. Viscosity increase is caused through the chemical degradation of the drawing lubricant combined with a build-up of aluminium particles.
The chemistry used to formulate the Alumol range greatly reduces the rate of degradation of the lubricant components. Additionally the boosted lubricity helps to decrease the amount of aluminium particles generated in the drawing process, thus viscosity increase is slowed.
